We got our first eggs!

When I went to let the chickens out after work today, I found these in their coop. Our first eggs! I don't know which of the three are responsible for these two eggs, but hopefully they will all be laying regularly soon.

They're getting a new, extended run tomorrow as well. We are being driven mad by chicken poo all over the path and front step, and it's impossible to keep them away from that area without a fence. After much extended and vigorous debate between myself and Skry, we have hired a man with a van to come and enhance our borders. The chickens will no longer be free-range, which saddens me, but they'll have lots of space to run about in and our doorstep will stay clean. Hopefully the trade-off will be worth it.

Hey, you can always let them out for a bit when you're in the garden anyway- kind of time off for good behaviour?!! :D Be sure to post pics of the new setup- YAY for the eggs, what did you make with them or are you still just looking at them in wonder?

Skry hasn't even seen them yet! He's at a work do and hasn't come home yet, and he doesn't have his phone with him either. It'll be a surprise.

We'll probably make omelette on Saturday morning and share it for breakfast. We have some homegrown lettuce and tomato to go with it, and fresh strawberries for dessert :)

That's great! homegrown lettuce and tomato too - very impressive. Take a pic of your omelette!!

Are the strawberries homegrown too?
How do they compare to wexford strawberries??

I fried the big egg for Skry when we got home from the hospital today. It was a double-yolker, and it was delicious! The yolk was incredibly tasty.

We got two more eggs today as well, another little one and another that looks like a double.

And yes the strawberries are also homegrown, in a strawberry planter in the conservatory. They are nearly as good as Wexford strawberries in my opinion, and a huge step above those watery supermarket ones :)
