More chicken stuff

We have been getting used to having chickens in the front garden. They get attacked by cats (bad), and they eat my flowers (bad). They have decimated the sweet peas, and made inroads on the sweet william.

This is the very bold Sean Henn and Beulah, in the middle of my flower garden. They know that they're naughty!

But they are lovely to have around, pecking inquisitively at our shoes, wedding rings, and zips, and making contented clucking noises as they sleep on the doormat.

Cluck Norris sleeps like the dead, literally. She looks like a dead chicken when she's dozing in the sunshine.

Isn't it the picture of urban bliss?

LOL, naughty hens!! Sleeping on the doorstep like that demonstrates poor vigilance, and will make it easier for the cats...can a cat actually kill a hen or are they simply living in hope? Will your plants ever be safe again?

Keith looks very happy. I am intensely envious of the warm weather you are having!!

Thanks for your email- I'm heading over to facebook now to reply!

The cats can kill the chickens, but the one time that I found a cat actually mauling a chicken it was scraping the daylights out of the cat with it's big claws.

Despite the feathers everywhere, Sean Henn managed to get away with no injuries. However we aren't leaving anything to chance these days. You will note that, in the pic with the chickens on the doorstep, there is a super soaker water pistol ready for cat deterring at any second.

Jen and I regularly patrol th egarden as Sheriff's and are happy to deputise anyone else interested :D

Hi, just read your entire blog! What an amazing journey you guys have had! How terrifying was the jetboat experience!!!!! Anyway its been really interesting reading about your move to NZ and seeing it through your eyes made me think, our TV really does suck and NZ post ARE complete rubbish. And how sucky was ANZ reneging on your overdraft!!!!! Welcome to New Zealand and good luck with the rest of your renovations, looking good so far!

You should cover (baste) the hens in lemon and thyme which will keep the cats at bay and if you ever decide to eat the things, all you have to do is add a little seasoning :)

suselore, you read the entire blog? Wow! That must have taken a while. Glad you enjoyed reading about our journey. We do love NZ really - even the occasional glitches haven't put us off in the slightest :)

Oh, and the TV might suck a bit but the ads are way better than TV ads in Ireland. The ad breaks are often better than the programmes!
