A trip up north (Part 1)

Skry and I took a little holiday last week - a trip to Napier to see our friends Don and Liz, who moved there from Ireland not too long after we moved to Christchurch. It was great to catch up with them, and great to have a week off work as well!
While we were there, we took the bus to Gisborne for a couple of nights. The bus journey was about four hours long, but it was very scenic so the time passed quickly. These are the things we saw most of:

Trees

Cows

Sweetcorn

Palm trees

Logs (on the road and piled up waiting to be transported elsewhere)

Gisborne is a fairly quiet place without much by way of entertainment, but we amused ourselves quite nicely and enjoyed the perks of our "executive suite" in the Emerald Hotel. Bedroom, sitting room, and massive bathroom, use of the swimming pool and spa, and a ginormous breakfast each morning, for $135/night. Not too shabby.
